Long-distance move from Hillsboro, NH to Florence, KY

OVER $4,000 worth of damage and not refunded!!!

If I could put zero stars I would. Moved from NH to KY. The guys moving the stuff out of the apartment and into the house were great. However the way they treated our stuff between pickup and drop off is deplorable. Every box was dented, every piece of furniture has a scratch or broken, shattered kitchen wear, broken vaccum, broken tv, broken computer… the list goes on and on. Their claims company offered us $130. 60 days later. Not even the price it cost us to replace the tv (which they packed) let alone the hundreds of other items broken. If you’re looking for a moving company steer clear of these people. A sheer disregard for your personal items.

Long-distance move from New York to Pennsylvania

Worst movers I've ever used.

I’m not sure how they got all these great reviews. Our experience was absolutely horrible. The original estimate was entirely incorrect based on unforeseen issues we weren’t even aware of, which we understood, and realized it will cost more. What we didn’t expect was the simple, basic attitudes by almost everyone we came in contact with.

Our furniture was held hostage by NJ Transport (due to their incompetent employees) for two additional days and owner demanded (screaming, cursing and threatening on the phone) that we pay the additional $1400 in cash instead of using a credit card as we were set up to do. He also made us sign a waiver that we would take him to court.

We did most of the packing, luckily, because what they did pack was done on a third grader level as well as the re-assembly; left-over parts, furniture put together backwards, glue from the tape everywhere.

Finally, our condo association required certificates of insurance for move out, which were never sent until 1 week after the move and several more phone conversations later. Then they wanted to charge us for them when the were part of the original request!

I’ve moved many times using moving services with little to no issues, but this by far took the cake for disrespectful and unprofessional service.

Official company response

• We do not understand this statement. The customer is upset that the original estimate was incorrect, but goes on to admit they “understood and realized it will cost more”. That is contradictory.
• The unforeseen issue was a Parking Permit requirement by the City for a truck our size. Our customer service representative DID IN FACT advise this customer well before had and prior to delivery: that the permit would be required and that the customer was responsible for obtaining the permit as ONLY residents are entitled to purchase those.
• When our crew arrived and asked for the permit, this customer told our foreman they didn’t purchase it because “it cost too much money”. The delivery site was on a one way street. While our crew was on scene Police were called.
• When the police arrived, they asked the customer why he had not purchased the required permits and ordered our crew and truck to leave the area and not respond back until the proper permits were issued and in hand. So this was not “unforeseen” and was the fault of the customer, not NJT.
• This also was a Per-Hour job. 3 men at 2.5 hours travel time each way. We have to pay our employees by the hour to and from our depot. When we have to send a full truck back to our Clifton NJ depot, and then back to Philly two days later when the permits have finally been obtained, we have to pay our people and did charge the customer for the additional time. This once again was the fault of the customer, not NJT.
• The customer’s belongings were not “held hostage”. As we explained above, the unloaded truck had to return to New Jersey because the customer failed to obtain the necessary permit to unload. The additional charges were as a result of this and as a result of this customer not getting the required permit until two days later.
• It is all over our contract and explained fully (the customer signed and acknowledged in more than one place) that NJT does not accept credit cards on delivery but cash or Postal Money Order only. NJT does accept credit cards for initial deposit and partial payments but not on delivery. The reason for this is that it has been our experience that some unscrupulous persons will cancel charges with their credit card companies after delivery and leave us stuck with no means short of litigation to recoup our payment due. This is also the reason for the acknowledgment of the possibility of civil litigation should there be a dispute.
• The comments about “third-grade level’, do not deserve a response as they are in themselves immature. Ours is an industry that employees hard-working ‘Blue-collar’ workers and despite that, they are professional that take pride in their industry. To disparage someone’s education level is unwarranted, immature and un-cool.
• Condo Associations or apartment complexes requiring Certificates of Insurance from Moving Company’s is completely standard practice and IS NOT an additional charge. Certificate were sent to the associations well prior to pick up and delivery. Additionally, all our crews responding to a client move bring COI’s to all jobs.

To close: we are sorry that this customer was not pleased with our service or professionalism. All of the problems they blame on NJT were in fact as a result of them not obtaining the permits that they knew that they should have had but chose not to get because: “they cost too much”.

Long-distance move from New York to California

Couldn't ask for better movers!!

I used new jersey transport on my move from NY. new jersey transport came, moved my stuff into storage and then moved my stuff to San Francisco. I have made several moves in the last couple years and this was the easiest one. It wasn't the cheapest quote I received but it was substantially less expensive than United and some other companies. juan and ronnie from the long-distance department were so easy to work with and got back to me when I had questions very quickly. They also followed-up to see how my move went. jerry came to deliver my furniture in SF. He was friendly, efficient and careful. One thing that really impressed me was that he showed me that my desk was missing a wooden piece underneath - this wasn't from the move and it was missing when I bought it from an antique market years previously but I thought it said a lot about the company that he volunteered the info. The one some casualty of the move was a bent lampshade that I can't get back to normal (of course it was the Jonathan Adler one haha) but considering I moved so much stuff I think this was overall a great experience and I would highly recommend them.thanks a lot to the management and the crew.

Missing Items.

I believe in God, the Christ, the Holy Spirit and I pray 3 times a day and I believe with all my heart that this company has done a great injustice towards me so I am going to cut through the chase of a bunch of words. All that was put on truck did not come back to me a MONTH LATER. THINK about that statement and choose your moving company wisely because I did NOT! May the reader of this honest review have a blessed day or evening and Praise the Lord all the time for he is Good and I know he will replace what was taken from me.

Official company response

Ms. Boyd, God bless. God is good God is great,

Unfortunately from your post here you do not state the issue that concerns about your move. When speaking with you, you said that there were two Barbara Streisand albums missing from a box you had packed containing your record collection? The other concern was a guitar. There was not a guitar listed on your inventory that you signed the day of pick up, and all documents at delivery were signed confirming you received your shipment in full. Your son has stated to us that you did not own or have a guitar? So we are a little at a loss at how we can rectify your concerns.

As always we strive to provide our customers with excellent service.

Long-distance move from New York to Florida

Disappointing long distance move.

The sales rep was very helpful - talked me through the process, my inventory list, and the estimate. Made me feel at ease.
The "packing" side of the move was handled well - professional team, did a good job.
The "delivery" side of the move was absolutely AWFUL! They subcontracted the delivery to an independent driver who was rude and condescending. He hired two college-age kids (off of Craig's list) to unload the truck, and called them "professional movers". They were given a ladder to unload the truck (NO ramp), and had no hand trucks to move items from the truck to the house. They randomly placed boxes into rooms, and had no room for the furniture when they finally got it off the truck. Delivery was started at 8:15 PM (nearly dark), and didn't finish until after 1:30 AM. Items were missing, furniture and boxes were damaged, and boxes were very poorly handled Items that were disassembled by the first crew were NOT reassembled by the second crew.

Dear Cara,
We are not sure why you have reposted your complaint? You did post this shortly after your move in July?
We have been diligently working with you through the claims department and the BBB. As you only filled out your claim form in September there is a process that has to be gone through. While we would like to be able to refund you your requested amount of 50% of your move it is an insurance matter and they have a certain requirements that must be worked through.

We do use some owner operated tractor trailer trucks they do come under our auspices and after your complaint we have terminated our agreement with this employee.

We can only apologize that the delivery team was not as courteous as your pick up team.

Local move within California

Worst Company to deal with.

One of the worst experience I have ever had with any vendor. I shipped my furniture from NJ to CA. They initially gave an estimate of 10-15days but it took 60days to get my furniture.. I wasted so much time in writing emails/phone calls etc..at the end it took 60days and we faced so inconvenience living without our furniture and finally when it arrived my TV stand had broken leg and the late compensation they paid is 20$ per day (Total: $340) and even for this check they took 2 weeks to pay it. Terrible service for the price we paid, it's not the cheapest option we had,we actually paid more than other bidders but got this service.. Check the picture if you can't beleive it.

Long-distance move from West Virginia to New Jersey

A team.

real good  experience! New jersey trans' was very efficient in moving my goods and very polite in dealing with us as customers. We did a long distance moves more then ones  and we are very much satisfied with their work. The crews seemed very experienced. We did almost nothing , they have packed it all from boxes to  furniture and other stuff . Their team consisted of four members. They packed our valuable accessories so that they might not get broken or scratched. Though they are not extremely cheap but quite affordable for me and I know a cheap rate can never give the best service! In a word, full five stars to the team and the company. Thanks a lot Ronnie and the crew , you guys made in painless ,  Very much pleased!

Long-distance move from Virginia to New York

You guys are really good.

My boyfriend got a job position in New York and I was left to pack up and move a 4 bedroom house in Virginia. When New Jersey transport called me they were very kind and understanding of the overwhelming feelings I was having. Ronnie walked me through everything I needed to do to make this a successful move. Three gentlemen arrived on time the day of the move. They were well mannered and very kind. They worked all day without a break making sure that everything was protected and scratch free and packed in the truck. On delivey(next day) A crew of three arrived on time. They were very fast and profetionl. It was a stressful time to be moving, but New Jersey Transport made it as painless as possible. I would definitely call them for our next move.

Excellant.

I have moved many times because of business, and this was the best company that I ever had move my family. I had many many pieces of furniture, expensive and valuable. All was wrapped perfect and delivered in perfect condition. The movers were friendly and polite. They even brought us coffee that day. I would recommend  this company to my son and daughter if they ever had to move. I give them 5 stars out of 5. I am a retired CEO and very hard to satisfy, but New Jersey Transport did it 100%.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to New York

Stay away from New Jersey Transport.

In addition to providing wrong information during the job estimation phase (Michelle) related to costs to the pick up location, commute time from pick up location to delivery site, delivery site to base. The moving crew damaged some of the furniture, which could have been entirely avoidable if the furniture was disassembled and properly wrapped. The worst part was that the certified letter containing the damage claims was returned as undeliverable by USPS.
